Ο στρατηγός στην απολογία του ενώπιον του δικαστηρίου είπε ότι η ημέρα αυτή θα γραφτεί στην ιστορία, αφού ο 26ος Αρχηγός ΓΕΕΘΑ της Τουρκικής Δημοκρατίας οδηγείτε στις φυλακές ως ηγετικό στέλεχος ένοπλης τρομοκρατικής οργάνωσης.
Ο Ιλκέρ Μπασμπούγ οδηγήθηκε στις φυλακές της Συληβρίας, όπου θα παραμείνει προφυλακισμένος μέχρι να οριστεί δικάσιμος για την υπόθεση της "Οδηγίας Ίντερνετ", όπως ονομάστηκε η διαταγή που δόθηκε στα πλαίσια του ΓΕΕΘΑ για την κατασκευή και λειτουργία δεκάδων ιστοσελίδων, οι οποίες θα έκαναν αντικυβερνητική προπαγάνδα.
Να σημειωθεί ότι είναι η πρώτη φορά που οδηγείται στις φυλακές ένας πρώην αρχηγός ΓΕΕΘΑ στην Τουρκία, που μέχρι πριν από λίγο καιρό εθεωρείτο ότι έχει μια ιδιότυπη ασυλία.

General Ilker Basbug, the former chief of the general staff of the Turkish military, was put in prison on the back of the request by the prosecutors, who had interrogated him for seven hours on Wednesday.
Basbug, who retired in 2010, is so far the highest-ranking former military official to be arrested in the investigation of the so-called Ergenekon network, which, prosecutors say, has been trying to bring down the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan since 2003.
Around 200 members of the military are thought to have planned attacks on mosques and worked to create tension in neighboring Greece to pave the way for a coup, which had been arranged to take place in 2003, but failed.
The Ergenekon network is also believed to have established several websites, meanwhile, to disseminate anti-government propaganda.
Some 400 suspects, including lawyers, journalists, officers, and academics, are already being tried in the case.
Erdogan's ruling Justice and Development Party has been trying to curb the military's influence on politics since the party came to power in 2002.
The Turkish military has carried out three coups in 1960, 1971, and 1980.
